Decisions, Decisions, Craft Storage Decisions

As anyone knows who has done any type of crafting for more than 5 minutes, it doesn’t take long before you find yourself with lots of supplies to organize and store. One issue I’ve had to deal with since starting the craft club at the college where I work is what to do with all the supplies for the club. I do have my own office, and while I am very happy to have one, it’s not overly large. It’s made for the usual desk, filing cabinet, and maybe a book case.

Add to this boxes of yarn, bags of fabric, bins of glue, packages of decorative paper, jewelry tools, and well, you get a cramped little space with lots of stuff everywhere and no place to put it. At one point earlier this summer, it looked like an answer came by way of an office that’s just around the corner from mine being vacated, but plans to let me move all the way over there, like 6 feet, fell through. However, my sweet department chair had a great alternative, get a storage cabinet for my office, yeah!

Now, that’s my dilemma. She said to get what I want and not worry about the price. Well, sorry, I can’t do that; I do worry about the price, even though the money comes from the department’s funds and not my own pocket book. That’s just how I think. I’m frugal. I buy things on sale. I look for free shipping. On the flip side, I am not really into shopping a lot. I want what I want, and I want it at the price I want, and I don’t want to waste a lot of time trying to accomplish this goal.

So now I’ve looked at Home Depot (both in person and on-line), Sam’s (in person), Amazon, Target, Walmart, and I’m so confused! Most furniture like this is made of particle board, which makes me worry that it won’t be strong enough to handle books and supplies. Then there are the ones made of steel, but the ones that are large enough for what I need are too pricey for me.

Every day I don’t make a decision, I continue to have bags-of-stuff on the floor of my office. So today, no matter what, I proclaim that I will decide. I will pick a cabinet, even if it’s not perfect. At least, I will have one at some point when it is ordered, assembled, and magically shows up in my office one day.

Welcome to the Crafty Princess Diaries, my weblog and site where I get to blab about my passion for crafts, primarily jewelry making, and my crafting career. My name is Tammy Powley, and I decided to call my blog the Crafty Princess Diaries because of this very dorky picture I have of myself and because my husband often refers to me as β€œthe princess and the pea,” which is just another way to say that I tend to be particular sometimes. Along with this weblog, I have a number of jewelry making books published.

  1. Have you looked at kitchen carts, Tammy? They can have wheels or not. You can mail order them. They come un-assembled, but they’re made of real – wood not particle board.

I’m running some craft articles next week by Romona Weston who also sells these carts. Google her name or read my blog next week.

This was pretty neat timing. I hope they suit your needs πŸ˜‰

  2. Good Evening Tammy,

As I was reading your article, I thought right away, that Tammy needs to read some in-depth reviews of portable and stationary solid wood kitchen carts.

I am Romona. Eileen has been featuring me all week on her blog. Please take some time and read my recommendations, on her blog. And please contact me with any questions. I was in your boat at one time.

Please note, I do not sell kitchen carts, I research all makes and models and recommends only the ones that I will use.

I know you will not regret getting one of these. The cost is worth every penny! The starting price anywhere from $250.00 -$400.00

    Hoping your organization is solved!
    Romona
