Finished Baby Blanket Yarn Baby Afghan

Awhile back I blogged about some amazing baby blanket yarn, and here is the finished product. Because the yarn is super duper thick, I decided to make a granny square with it. Otherwise, at least in the South, it might just be too heavy. It turned out great, and I am in love with the yarn now. In fact, I’m thinking of making some larger afghans with it for some future holiday gifts. Unfortunately, most of the colors it comes in are more for babies, but there are a few, such as a pretty peach color, that I think I can use for a non-baby afghan.

The finished size is 30 inches, and I ended up having to purchase an extra skein to finish it. As I suspected, the 10.5 oz size was just not going to be enough for one baby afghan, even a small one. I probably used a little less than half of another skein of the same size, and I managed to use a 40% off coupon when I picked up the second skein in JoAnn’s. So it was about $5 for it. Now I am just going to be on the lookout for it to go on sale and stock up when I can.

Welcome to the Crafty Princess Diaries, my weblog and site where I get to blab about my passion for crafts, primarily jewelry making, and my crafting career. My name is Tammy Powley, and I decided to call my blog the Crafty Princess Diaries because of this very dorky picture I have of myself and because my husband often refers to me as “the princess and the pea,” which is just another way to say that I tend to be particular sometimes. Along with this weblog, I have a number of jewelry making books published.

  1. Tammy, You’re right, this yarn is addictive and fantastic. I’ve made baby blankets from this and have bought it from Bernat on line. I even drove to other stores out of town to get some. Just recently the Joann’s had alot of it on a big promotional display with a lot of new colors:
Peach (solid that matches the Peachy variegated)
Baby Royal (solid royal that matches some of their new colors)
Vanilla (solid off white that matches some of their new colors)
Sand (solid taupy color that matches some of the new colors)
Little Cosmos (variegated sand, baby blue and vanilla)
Little Royals (variegated sand, baby royal blue and vanilla)
Little Sand Castles (variegated with taupe, gray, and vanilla)
Little Sunshine (variegated green, yellow and peach. Prettier than their Poises variegated with the pink)

I’m making one for a 17 yr old girl with Peachy and Peach, and for a 22yr old boy I’m making one with Sand and Little Sand Castles. If I bought enough, I might make me one with Little Sand and Vanilla. Joann’s says they don’t know if they will get this promotion again and as of now they can’t special order more. I’ve been to 5 stores within 60 miles and they all are pretty much sold out. All of the stores did not get the same color selection in. They only came in the 10.5 ounce ball and not the 3.5 ounce size. Reg price for the big ball is 9.99 on sale for 7.49, then they had 20% off making them 5.99. Good deal. Next week a new joann’s is opening in a mall here and I hope they have this promotion stocked. Bernat online is still only offering their regular 9 colors in the big ball and 11 colors in the
small size. But they do show a newly listed free pattern online using the new Baby Royal color. I told you I’m addicted and of course I’ll keep checking ebay, as I still need more. Good luck, this yarn is worth looking for.

    Betty
