Bead Vlog: Crafting Process Versus Product

I mainly talk about jewelry making in this bead vlog, but the idea of what is more important, the process or product, is an issue in all types of crafts.

Welcome to the Crafty Princess Diaries, my weblog and site where I get to blab about my passion for crafts, primarily jewelry making, and my crafting career. My name is Tammy Powley, and I decided to call my blog the Crafty Princess Diaries because of this very dorky picture I have of myself and because my husband often refers to me as “the princess and the pea,” which is just another way to say that I tend to be particular sometimes. Along with this weblog, I have a number of jewelry making books published.

  1. Thanks for the great advice, Tammy! This vlog really struck a chord with me. I “liked” this vlog episode on YouTube so I can easily find it when I need another good swift kick in the rear. If I enjoy beading, why not bead?! Indeed!!

I’m like the woman you talked about who stopped beading because, “what am I going to do with all of it?” But there are probably many like us. Beading is that kind of craft. The supply stash seems to mount exponentially like no other craft I’ve ever done. You buy beads in quantities and always have a lot left over – except for focal pieces. My beading stash is huge and just sits there guilt-tripping me.

  2. You and my friend are not alone in this need to justify your crafting. I’ve fallen into this too, especially when people say things like “what are you going to do with that?” or “that must have taken you a long time.” Others who don’t get it feel like we need to give a reason for crafting, so that gets in our heads.
