The baby blanket is finished, but I’m afraid this blanket is not up to snuff for human children. So, I’ve decided to donate it instead to a local animal shelter. I’m sure they won’t mind that my tension is so wacky that it’s beyond comprehension.
I did manage to use some of the leftover yarn and make some 6″ squares to donate to a Linus group in Texas who is having a push for them this month via a crochet group I am a member of. The squares gave me an idea too. They are much easier to manage than a full sized baby blanket, so I may try to do something like that with another (human) baby blanket, make a bunch of squares and then connect them at the end. It’s a thought at least.
I’m not sure exactly why I had such a hard time with the tension on this project because I have made plenty of afghans and never had this happen, but I’m thinking it was mainly due to the yarn, which is much softer and silkier than I usually use (normally regular acrylic yarn). It was pretty much slipping and sliding all over the place for the first 1/3 of the blanket. I did get better later, but at that point, it was a little too late to save the early part that I’d crocheted already.
Sigh, well, hey, I learned a new stitch (the rib stitch), and I broke out of my yarn comfort zone as well, so I’m not totally bummed about the outcome. If some homeless cat or dog finds it comfy, that’s still a good thing.
My next project is for animals, a cat tubbie. I’ve started on it already, and though I’ve had a heck of a time figuring out the instructions, I’m making progress. I’ll keep you posted.

I think it’s beautiful but I think that you’re donating it to the animal shelter is even more beautiful! Some little animal is going to be so happy. =)
