Latest Baby Blanket

I have been making lots of afghan squares lately, but I’m switching gears and going back to baby items while I make this blanket for Heart Felt Angels. This is the Yahoo Crochetlist’s September charity selection, and I decided to be a little ambitious. They are asking for preemie hats and blankets, and I’m guessing since hats are so easy to do, there will be lots of them and not so many blankets.

I’m using a size K hook and TLC Baby Amore yarn in a variegated pattern called “Baby,” which includes all the typical baby colors: pink, blue, green, yellow, and white. I have four skeins which are 4 oz each, so hopefully that’s enough. It’s going to be about 18×18 when I’m done.  I’m just doing a simple double crochet stitch for most of it, and then I hope to trim it in a solid color, maybe soft green, to finish it off.

It’s nothing fancy, but projects like this are perfect when I want to crochet at night in front of the TV and don’t want to have to constantly refer to a pattern, which means using my brain!

Welcome to the Crafty Princess Diaries, my weblog and site where I get to blab about my passion for crafts, primarily jewelry making, and my crafting career. My name is Tammy Powley, and I decided to call my blog the Crafty Princess Diaries because of this very dorky picture I have of myself and because my husband often refers to me as “the princess and the pea,” which is just another way to say that I tend to be particular sometimes. Along with this weblog, I have a number of jewelry making books published.

  1. Good for you, Tammy! I should get a project like that going so I can just pick it up and put it down when I have a bit of time.

  2. That’s one thing that’s cool about crochet, portable and you can have a project going like this all the time. Squares are really good too, but I like to do both.

  3. That’s a pretty pattern of colors in the yarn. I love doing projects that don’t take thought in front of the tv…it makes me feel productive 😉

  4. That’s so sweet of you.

You’ve reminded me how relaxing crochet can be – when you’re not struggling to follow a complex pattern.

  5. Thanks, Cyndi & Eileen, yes, I’m all into easy, especially with crochet. I just like to kick back and relax with the hook!

  6. What a great reason to crochet! I think everyone should have a project available that doesn’t require any thought or counting and crocheting a blanket like this is perfect!
