Craft Techniques & Technical Wackiness

Serenity the Movie

Well, it tooks me forever to make this necklace and then it took me forever to post the step-by-step tutorial, but finally, the Serenity Ceramic, Wire, and Stone Necklace is done!

While I’m not sure if the movie Serenity would be considered part of the Steampunk genre, it came to mind when I started designing this necklace. The dark color of Melanie’s ceramic components and the idea of a futuristic world that is mixed with odds and ends from previous worlds made me think of mixing odds and and ends I have around here like hematite beads (always have those on hand), some colored hemp fiber, and some colored floral wire I got dirt cheap at my local craft store.

Between the craft technique I used of wrapping each bead and the computer problems I seem to be having lately, I thought I’d never finish this necklace. Wrapping each bead takes a lot more time than I remember. Plus, my eyes are in sad, sad shape! I am in desperate need of some new glasses. Luckily, my intent with this jewelry piece was to get an industrial look to it, so the fact that it may not be as finished as most of my pieces, I’m okay with.

The other technical issues were computer issues! My computer keeps giving me that blue screen, and my tech support slash husband doesn’t believe me. Then there’s wordpress that doesn’t want me to upload pictures, so I have to send them over to photobucket.

I’m wondering if this is some kind of voo-doo going on that’s trying to tell me to get off the computer and go read a book!

Welcome to the Crafty Princess Diaries, my weblog and site where I get to blab about my passion for crafts, primarily jewelry making, and my crafting career. My name is Tammy Powley, and I decided to call my blog the Crafty Princess Diaries because of this very dorky picture I have of myself and because my husband often refers to me as “the princess and the pea,” which is just another way to say that I tend to be particular sometimes. Along with this weblog, I have a number of jewelry making books published.
