March is National Crochet Month, so of course, that means I have to do a crochet-related giveaway. Voila, stitch markers – made by me. The lampwork beads were made by DD Hess, and then I used a few extra beads, some head pins, and lobster claw clasps to turn them into stitch markers.
Though these can also be used for knitting, since it is the month to celebrate crochet, I’m going to ask crochet related questions. This giveaway is available to anyone living in the continental US. To get a chance to win these stitch markers answer one of the questions below in the comments:
If you already crochet, why do you enjoy it? If you do not crochet, what has prevented you from picking up the hook?
Post your comment only once in this blog entry and you will get a chance to win. The deadline for entry is March 31, 2013 midnight ET. Then during the first few days of the next month, I will randomly pick one winner. Make sure to include your email address when commenting. I will email the winner who will have 5 days after the drawing to reply back with a mailing address. Anyone who does not reply after 5 days will no longer be eligible to win, and I will draw a new winner.

I enjoy crochet because my projects are usually smaller & faster. It’s much quicker to crochet an Ami then it is to knit a sweater.
March 6, 2013 at 5:43 pm
I enjoy how quickly I can complete a project. I’m mostly a knitter, but frequently have the uncontrollable urge to pick up the hooks!
March 6, 2013 at 6:13 pm
I have tried to learn how to crochet several times, but can’t get use to holding the yarn in my left hand. I am strictly right handed.
March 6, 2013 at 6:14 pm
I enjoy crocheting because of the many fun patterns.

I’m more of a knitter but am interested in trying to crochet a blanket! Love those stitch markers!
March 6, 2013 at 7:17 pm
I stared to crochet in 4h, I was 9. Crocheted often till about 18,sporadically till about 2 years ago. I’m doing about 1 shawl a month now and have a shawl pattern that can be complected in 24 hours, I enjoy the quick ones as much as the complected patterns.

I was taught by my Grandmother at age 5. I feel so connected to my ancestors who were German Lace Crocheters. My mother just gave me her toddler coat with a china doll with matching coat. The craftsmanship is something to aspire to! I like to remind myself that I am creating the heirlooms of the future.
March 6, 2013 at 7:57 pm
Beautiful stitch markers! I enjoy crochet because I can take a ball of yarn and a hook and turn it into something great!
March 6, 2013 at 9:40 pm
My grandmother was a hooker and I used to watch her crochet for hours as a little kid. I’ve only recently picked up a hook but I like how it makes me feel connected to her.

I love to crochet baby blankets. They are so beautiful when completed.

My heavens I love to crochet for so many reasons! It’s relaxing yet exciting all at once, I can do it and watch tv (lol), I love finishing something and the “I Made that” feeling, I love the feel and smell of the yarn! I love everything about it except when my hands and shoulders hurt!
March 6, 2013 at 11:39 pm
I started to crochet a couple summers ago because I fell in love with amigurumi! I would crochet a bunch and give them to my sister and friends. Wrist pains stopped me from continuing the craft for a while, but I’ve recently picked it back up again and am holding the hook a new way that causes less trauma! π
March 7, 2013 at 12:27 am
I don’t crochet – it is hard for me as I am left-handed and have never been able to find someone to teach me…
Your stitch markers are totally beautiful…

Two of the things I like most about crochet is how well it lends it self to sculptural and 3-D forms, and how it can add a beautiful finishing touch to knitted pieces.
March 7, 2013 at 6:31 am
I love crochet for edgings on my knitted projects.
March 7, 2013 at 7:35 am
I want to be good at crocheting. My mom is brilliant at it; she can make almost anything. I’ve tried a handful of times, mostly with toys. I hope someday to be much better at it. Right now, I stick mostly to knitting.

I love to crochet because it is easier to stop in the middle of a line and I find lace work to be easier with crochet over knitting.
March 7, 2013 at 10:11 am
I learned how to crochet long before I learned how to knit. I enjoy crocheting, you can create something beautiful whether its a stand alone item or the finishing edgings on a project. I find I can crochet far faster than I can knit!
March 7, 2013 at 10:57 am
I enjoy crocheting because I can multitask when I crochet. Knitting, not so much.
March 7, 2013 at 11:30 am
I used to crochet. Years ago I crocheted several afghans. I want to pick it up again but keep getting distracted by knitting projects. It will happen.
March 7, 2013 at 11:33 am
I like crochet because it is so much faster than knitting. And MUCH easier to finish a garment with a quick single crochet border rather than picking up hundreds of stitches.
March 7, 2013 at 1:41 pm
I enjoy both knitting and crochet. Crochet goes way faster!! Thanks

I learned how to crochet while I was in the navy to keep me sane while on the ship. It helped a lot… I tend to knit more nowadays, but i still love to pick up the hook!
March 7, 2013 at 4:23 pm
I love how fast it is & how easy it is to rip back to fix mistakes (which I make quite a few of! :P). It’s great to take a break from knitting & whip something up with a hook. ^^
March 7, 2013 at 5:36 pm
I’ve recently taught myself to crochet, and I like it because it is so fast!
March 7, 2013 at 6:58 pm
I love to crochet. It’s like magic. You pick up a skein of yarn and then like magic you have this awesome project. I always say crocheting is my therapy. Your mind just relaxes along with your body and your worries go away.
March 8, 2013 at 12:11 am
I can do chain crochet, around knitted edges…I love to knit. Someday I will really learn how to crochet.
March 8, 2013 at 2:13 am
I learned to crochet when I was a child. I made afghans and handbags. When I was around 20 years of age, I learned to knit. I do both nowadays. I love to crochet blankets because it’s much faster than knitting one.
March 8, 2013 at 11:09 am
I love to crochet because it is so relaxing and it is a great way to express myself creativly while blessing people with really awesome gifts.
March 8, 2013 at 11:53 am
Crocheting is my creative outlet to see if I can create what I see in ami. I never will get the hang of knitting sorry to say. And stitch markers are a must!!!
March 8, 2013 at 12:45 pm
I love crocheting because it is comforting to sit down and do. You can bring it almost anywhere with you and don’t have to worry about a dropped stitch or “lethal” weapon as with knitting. I also find crocheting as being creative for me.
March 8, 2013 at 12:52 pm
I enjoy crochet because I make fun toys for my son and others to enjoy while giving a meaningful gift I really put thought and time into rather than just something I grabbed at the store. I hope one day they will look at these items and think of me and know I loved them! I hope to one day make enough to donate also to shelters for kids that come in with nothing.
March 8, 2013 at 7:52 pm
I knit and crochet and have been turning to crochet more and more often. There is just something so relaxing and satisfying about the simplicity and speed of crochet. I also feel like it’s so much easier to modify a crocheted piece than a knit one.
March 8, 2013 at 9:46 pm
I have been a knitter for years but recently inspired to learn crochet. All I know for sure that my friends who do crochet just cringe at my technique, it’s really frightening. But I am learning
March 9, 2013 at 2:01 am
My grandmother and mother crocheted and taught me as a child. I also knit but find crochet easier to take along to appointments and when traveling. In recent years, I have found great enjoyment in crocheting for charity. I make preemie “blankies” and hats, as well as, chemo caps. It’s fun to shop for the softest yarns in fun colors for these projects.
Love the stitch markers!!
March 9, 2013 at 8:51 am
I’m a better knitter than crocheter, but I do love to crochet baby blankets for new arrivals.
March 9, 2013 at 11:59 am
My mom taught me to crochet probably 50 years ago. I’ve made lots of items, but my favorite is thread crochet. Have done some of the beaded crochet that is similar to Oya, fun!
March 9, 2013 at 5:47 pm
I taught myself to crochet over 30 years ago, and love it!! I recently adapted a stitch pattern from The Crochet Prayer Shawl Companion for use in a cowl using 1 entire ball of sock yarn and knocked out 6 of them in no time!! One of the things I love about crochet – how quickly it goes for me!
March 10, 2013 at 12:48 am
I couldn’t get the hang of crochet for the longest time (as a long-time knitter I couldn’t figure out where to insert the hook for a new stitch but also have an obsession with doing things Properly) but then something clicked … and I love it now! Partly that’s a prqactical issue (it is physically easier for me to crochet than to knit) but partly it gives me a way to relax and almost meditate.
March 10, 2013 at 1:21 pm
I love crocheting because it reminds me of my mom. She taught me when I was little. Crocheting is a zen thing for me–so calming and if you make a mistake – it’s easy to pull out or just forget about.
March 10, 2013 at 2:05 pm
I knit and crochet – but I like knit garments more.
March 10, 2013 at 2:11 pm
I combine crocheting with my knitting. Crocheting reminds me of my grandma.

I love to crochet because it is very calming, and it has great, cute, and quick results! It is so easy to have beautiful results that make everyone smile. π

I enjoy crocheting because it is a bazillion times faster than knitting – so I can whip up a quick project, with good job satisfaction. π
March 11, 2013 at 11:46 am
I crochet because I’m faster at crochet than I am at knitting so there’s an almost instant gratification of finishing a project. But I think I enjoy crochet more because my favorite Aunt taught me to crochet as a small child and now she has MS and cannot crochet herself anymore. Now I crochet for her!
March 11, 2013 at 11:47 am
I love those and they are PINK!! Yummy I use lobster Claw Markers for both Knitting and Crochet. I Learned to knit at 9 and FINALLY crochet at 40 π I love to make beaded shawls and bags.
March 11, 2013 at 4:11 pm
I crochet toys and afghans. almost all other items i knit
March 11, 2013 at 8:49 pm
I love crocheting, I learned about 5-6 years ago and cannot seem to put my hook down, even to get some shuteye! Its just a sense of accomplishment when I finish a project and the thought of handmade clothing!
March 11, 2013 at 9:32 pm
What pretty markers. I am a knitter and crocheter, but have been working on knitting for the last several years. However, when I need a break, I crochet something. Somehow it is relaxing and reminds me of my grandmother who taught me these and so many other crafts.
March 11, 2013 at 10:09 pm
I like crochet because you only need one hook and yarn, and it is portable, you can take it anywhere when you have to wait. Also you can invent things and easily rip it apart if it doesn’t work out. All the little toys one can make are cute and everyone likes them, so can make handmade gifts and I enjoy all the kinds of yarn that are available also.
March 11, 2013 at 10:19 pm
I LOVE crocheting because it’s a great stress reliever, it doesn’t take up much space and you can take it with you wherever you go π
March 12, 2013 at 1:12 am
I love the markers. I learned crochet first when I was little.
My mom taught me to knit 10ish years ago and I now switch back and forth
depending on the project. I often use crochet for edges and flowers.
I really love both!

I have *long* wanted to be an accomplished crocheter. I’ve bought book after book, read blogs, read magazines … and though I’ve got the supplies, I’ve never been able to “get it” (try as I might)! I *finally* realized that I’m not a book learner — I’m a *video* learner! LOL! I need to see it being done in order to figure it out on my side. I’m planning to take a video course (I can’t find anyone who crochets nearby to teach me)!! Any recommendations? I want to be able to create all the beautiful yarn things that I see all over blogsphere! The markers are darling, too! π
March 12, 2013 at 11:26 am
I watched my aunt and my grandmother crochet and was amazed at the speed at which they went. A string at one hand and it came out a doily on the other hand. I’m still amazed at it all these years later. Your markers are just beautiful.
March 12, 2013 at 5:00 pm
I learned single and double crochet when my kids were teens and made each of us a Bedsize afghan. Unfortunately arthritis has made it more difficult to crochet than knit, so I do that more. But I LOVE crochet potholders and dishcloths! I have my 88 yr old mil crocheting again after many years and enjoying it! She doesn’t have Arthur: )
March 13, 2013 at 8:08 am
I love to crochet and learn from a friend. I make flowers to put on my journals and cards.
March 13, 2013 at 9:35 am
I would love these. I don’t know how to crochet well. These would make great little charms on a braclet!
March 14, 2013 at 9:55 pm
Woops, almost forgot, I learned to crochet from an elderly neighbor when I was 11 yrs old. Now I love to teach children to crochet and knit!
March 15, 2013 at 1:33 am
I love how relaxing crochet is for me. I also love how much quicker crochet is versus knitting(I love to knit too). I have been crocheting off and on since I was about 16(31 now) and have really gotten into it in the past year or two.
March 16, 2013 at 10:18 am
I am primarily a knitter but I love crochet for edgings and trims.
March 16, 2013 at 10:51 am
These are lovely! I crochet because I can get things done and if I make a mistake it’s soon easy to fix! I am working on my knitting, and my fab LYS have the nicest people who seriously help. Me even when I seem hopeless! Crochet is my relaxation…
March 16, 2013 at 10:38 pm
These are lovely! I enjoy crochet, have only recently picked it back up after years of having set it aside and my work has done nothing but improve, and I’m learning new things all the time to continue along the way to expert crochet!
March 17, 2013 at 5:37 pm
I learned to crochet first and I am thrilled that I can add crochet to any of my knitted items with no effort
March 20, 2013 at 7:57 am
I love crochet because it’s faster than knitting so I can whip out a baby blanket in a day or two. Oh, and because it’s so easy to frog back if I find a mistake. The stitch markers are GORGEOUS!
March 25, 2013 at 4:53 pm
I’m mainly a knitter, but I use crochet occasionally. Your stitch markers are so pretty.
March 25, 2013 at 6:48 pm
I crochet, and I love it because I can crochet while watching TV. I don’t like to just sit, I need to be doing something, so I crochet while I watch.
March 25, 2013 at 7:53 pm
I love crochet because it goes fast and produces beautiful handmade treasures.
March 26, 2013 at 9:08 pm
I don’t crochet….but only because I don’t know how! My great-grandmother taught me a little when I was 6 years old, but it didn’t stick.
I would love to own these beautiful stitch markers!
March 28, 2013 at 5:53 am
I learned both knitting and crocheting waaay back in high school. 30 years later I started knitting again, and a few years after that, just recently, I started crocheting again. It’s quick, there are more interesting, less granny-square, patterns out there now (although I’m working an afghan from 1957 pattern now!) and of course, the projects work up more quickly!
Your markers are just beautiful! Thanks for the chance to win them.
March 29, 2013 at 1:06 pm
I love crochet because it’s relaxing, I can make a variety of items from clothing to toys to doilies, and it’s something I can do and still be with my family – it doesn’t require going off into another room.
March 30, 2013 at 12:01 am
I learned to crochet as a child. I love it because it is easy to shape – dolls and doilies, ruffles and frills.
March 30, 2013 at 6:23 am
These stitch-markers are gorgeous! So far, I’ve only crocheted to finish edgings on my knitted objects, or to add embellishments and decoration to them. I never took the time to learn because I was under the misconception that crocheting was for afghans and flat pieces, and knitting was for clothing (maybe I got this from my bi-crafty grandmother? not sure). But since I’ve joined Ravelry, I have seen the error of my ways! Once I get some already committed-to projects out of the way, I plan to seriously learn some crochet skillz and get hooking!
