Here it is, unwashed or blocked as yet, but I have completed my first baby afghan made up of 10 inch squares. I used single crochet as the base stitch after doing the 10 inch chain, but otherwise, I used double crochet (since it is a zillion times faster than single crochet). Then I made a single crochet trim around each block and used this to slip stitch all the squares together. Finally, I trimmed the entire blanket with purple yarn using single crochet.
There is definitely nothing fancy about this little 30×30 inch baby afghan, but it was a very do-able project for me and fairly fast comparatively speaking. It also didn’t take a ton of yarn. I used an H size hook and Barent Softee and was able to get 3 squares from one yarn skein with a little left over. Since there are only 9 squares needed, that not too bad.
I’m moving on to a few projects for friends and family, and then I will be back to making more of these. I already have a few squares set aside. I’d like to get at least a few more made, and then I will give them to a local Healthy Start chapter.
