Payvment New E-Commerce for Facebook Users?

Blogged under Crafty Videos by Tammy on Friday 18 June 2010 at 8:37 am

I have been hearing a lot lately about a new feature to Facebook called Payvment. It a way to turn your Facebook page into an e-commerce page or basically a shop. For me right now, I’m not ready to do something like this because I have all my eggs and time over at Etsy, but this sure does sound interesting. I already know of a number of people who have sold an item (jewelry and other craft or artwork) after showing it off on their Facebook page. This seems like it has a lot of potential. Here’s a video that give you more information about this:

Flipping Out Over Flip Video Camera

Blogged under Crafty Products, Crafty Videos by Tammy on Thursday 10 June 2010 at 5:01 pm

Recently, I was asked to shoot a test video for a client I write for. When and if it goes live on-line, I’ll give you more info on that, but one very cool thing that came out of it was that I discovered the Flip Video Camera, just about the smallest video camera I’ve ever seen and very easy to use. The client loaned the camera to me, and I only had time to shoot one test video before having to return it. My husband, who was my photographer, and I were so impressed with this little guy that I did some research and discovered that they are sold all over the place on-line and are very reasonably priced. So, I bought one.

It arrive the other day and I’ve started to play around with it some more on my own, sans hubby’s help, and I’m still pretty darn impressed. The only drawback we have found is that it is not capable of super duper close-up detailed shots. For example, if you were going to show how to crimp a crimp bead, this camera won’t cut it. However, for larger crafting items, this may be the answer to anyone who has wanted to try to put some videos together but wasn’t able or sure about plunking down some big buck for a video camera. It would also be a handy camera to bring to craft fairs or related events since it so small and light-weight.

I have some ideas for some other videos for my client, so hopefully, this will be a new direction for my on-line publishing. If not, I can always post them here, but I’ll let you know how it goes.

How to Make Patchwork Coasters w/ Lotta Jansdotter from Rowenta USA on Vimeo.

I thought this was a pretty good little video. It is a project for beginners, but it is also an interesting idea for using up scraps for those who have a little more sewing experience and can’t seem to throw away even the smallest piece of leftover fabric.

Video about Sewing Machines

Ever wanted to learn how to sew but had no idea where to start when it came to which sewing machine was right for you? This video from Threads magazine has some good advice and information.

I was amazed to see that the newer sergers will automatically thread for you, wow! That was always a major hassle when I took sewing classes. I think I drove my instructor crazy asking her to thread it for me all the time.

Crochet + Dance = Cool

I tend to like weird art, especially if it combines fibers and other materials I have an interest. In this video, you get a look at how crochet and dance are combined to create a performance piece called “Covers.” It was part of an installation at The Lab Gallery in Manhattan back in September.

This may be off some folks’ weird-o scale, but I think it’s pretty cool.

Yarn Bomb Book & Video Peek

Blogged under Crafty Videos by Tammy on Monday 21 September 2009 at 7:56 am

Yarn bombing is the wacky, weird, and wonderful practice of adorning outside spaces with knitted and crocheted artwork. I love this idea, though I have to admit I can’t imagine myself with so much time that I would actually do this. Plus, down here in the South, yarn bombed items probably wouldn’t last very long. However, for those who think they may like to become part of the yarn bombing movement, there’s now a book out about it, which includes knit and crochet projects to get you going.

Here’s a video of one of the book launches where authors Mandy Moore and Leanne Prain show off some of the finished items from the book. My favorite has got to be the monster feet for the mailbox.
