Amigurumi Going to the Dogs Now

Blogged under amigurumi by Tammy on Friday 20 July 2012 at 9:03 am

Here is the start of my latest amigurumi creation, Paula Puppy, or this might look more like Paul Puppy when I’m done since he will be wearing a blue and white t-shirt instead of the more pink colored one from the original pattern over at Lion Brand. I am hoping I can get this done this weekend and get him mailed out with his other amigurumi friends early next week. Unfortunately, I have no more safety eyes, and my local Michael’s no longer carries them, so I had to order some on-line. Fingers crossed they show up today or tomorrow because I can’t stuff him until I get those boogers.

Again, I’m using yarn from my stash, Sugar and Cream in Denim (the blue/white yarn) and Terra Firma (the brown yarn). So far, the pattern is really easy, as most amigurumi toy pattern tend to be, lots of single crochet pretty much and counting.

Frankenstein Meets Amigurumi

Blogged under amigurumi by Tammy on Wednesday 18 July 2012 at 2:15 pm

I finally finished this amigurumi owl. The pattern is from Crocheted Softies: 18 Adorable Animals from Around the World. This is a big boy, 6 inches wide and about 10 inches tall! As I was connecting all the parts – feet, wings, and especially the head – I started to feel like Dr. Frankenstein. I actually ran out of stuffing and had to go get more because the dude is so big.

I’ve been making so many frogs and monsters for a toy donation drive that I figured I needed to make something a little more snuggly looking. I have a lot of brown and beige cotton yarn in my stash, and this project (Hootie the Owl) is the easiest one in the book. Of course, I had to move up to a bigger box for shipping, and wouldn’t you know it, there is room enough for one more toy. I think I have another one in me before I need to ship these off next week.

No-Tooth Mr. Toothy Finished

Blogged under amigurumi,Charity Crafting,Finished Projects by Tammy on Monday 16 July 2012 at 7:02 am

I’m still on a toy kick. I forgot how much I enjoy amigurumi! My latest creation is called Mr. Toothy and is a pattern I received when I signed up for Craftsy.com’s Design Your Own Monster course. I have not had time to complete the entire course yet, but when you sign up you receive handouts. As part of the class handouts, you get a number of patterns, and this was one of them. In the version from the class, you are supposed to glue on a felt tooth, but I didn’t include the tooth. I might add one later.

Got My Stockinette Zombie HO Bag & Swag Too!

Blogged under Crafty Products by Tammy on Friday 13 July 2012 at 8:26 am

Why silly stuff like this excites me, well, I don’t know, but I was giddy yesterday when my Stockinette Zombie HO bag arrived in the mail. “HO” is one of the many fiber terms thrown around over at Ravelry, and it means “half-finished object.” Here is Coco helping me open up the package. We both were impressed with the extra swag (pin and sticker).

The Stockinette Zombie podcast is one of my favorites because it is just like hanging out with two fiber ladies who are chatting to you. And while I have a lot of project bags, for some reason, I never seem to have enough.

What’s On My Hooks, No Needles Now

Blogged under Projects in Progress by Tammy on Thursday 12 July 2012 at 9:05 am

After finishing a knitting scarf kit recently, I have not cast on any other knitting yet. Though, I do plan on tackling a ribbed scarf again soon. I’m going back and forth on the size needles and yarn to use for that. My cross stitch is hibernating right now. However, I do have a few things on my hooks, two of which are fairly large projects though not necessarily difficult to do.

I’m probably about half way done with this ripple shawl. I’m loving the jewel tones of the yarn. I normally work on this a little in the evenings if there is enough light. Hubby likes to watch TV in a cave.

I should have this monster toy finished this weekend. It will then ship off with a frog and another monster next week if all goes as planned. The monster above is from a pattern by Stacey Trock called Mr. Toothy.

Finally, here is another shawl I’m working on using Chroma yarn fingering weight in a colorway called Fossil. The pattern is called the Windsor Lace Wrap, and it’s a free download on Ravelry. Once I finish this, I will probably put it in my office at school so I have something neutral colored but handy for the occasional AC getting too cold.

Knit Kit Scarf Done!

Blogged under crochet and knitting by Tammy on Tuesday 10 July 2012 at 6:55 am

I finished the scarf from the Morehouse Farm kit, and it turned out great!I love these colors and how they make stripes in the fabric. It was a good way to practice knit stitch, and next I’m going to go back and tackle ribbing.

Craft Wars Goes to the Dogs Tuesday Night

If you have been loving Craft Wars on TLC raise your hand! Yes, me too! In fact, I also wanted to pass the word onto those on the east coast who have Xfinity or Comcast or whatever they are calling themselves this week that you can see previous week’s episodes of Craft Wars on Monday nights on TLC. I think it comes on around 7pm, so if you missed last week’s show or just want to watch it again, take note!

Now for tomorrow night’s show, as usual there are three contestants and two craft challenges: first they have to make a toy box and then they have to make a dog house. Here are some clips from tomorrow night.

Bitten by Amigurumi Bug Again

Blogged under amigurumi by Tammy on Monday 9 July 2012 at 7:50 am

It has been awhile since I made any amigurumi items, but the I’m still pushing to make a few more toys for the Big Hearts and Helping Hands toy drive, and these are super fast to make. Plus, they are so cute!

The frog pattern is a free one from the Lion Brand web site, and then I used that to make the monster. I just changed a few things like made him a little longer, gave him one eye ball and some hair, made his legs longer, and gave him an extra arm.

I’ve got a third monster in the works. This one is from a pattern by Stacey Trock of Fresh Stitches.
